The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) has revealed its proposed set of extensions to its metadata standard.

The extensions follow a meeting between representatives of European governments and the DCMI at MIReG in May this year, where it was proposed that additional elements were needed for cataloguing and querying government information.

DCMI has published the first draft extensions on its website for initial comments and feedback, before preparing the final proposal for submission to the DCMI usage board.

The Dublin Core metadata set is a minimalist set of elements that describe most types of electronic content. For more information, visit the Dublin Core website at http://dublincore.org/
