Learnwise 2 VLE presented at ALT-C conference
Granada Learning announced the availability of LearnWise 2 server --a new virtual learning environment (VLE)-- at the ALT-C 2002 conference in Sunderland.
The new version differs from 1.0 mainly in support for IMS Learner Information Package (IMS LIP) and Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) runtime. Learnwise already supported IMS Metadata, Content Packaging and Enterprise.
LIP support should mean improvements in the area of exchanging learner information between institutions (provided that both institutions use the same subset or application profile of LIP). SCORM 1.2's learning object focus improves content re-useability, and introduces its distinctive content structure. Some informal testing has also demonstrated interoperability between Learnwise and Microsoft's LRN; a specific implementation of IMS content packaging and metadata. Content authored in a combination of MS Office and MS LRN package can, therefore, be imported into Learnwise.
The first installations of LearnWise 2.0 are due to take place in September 2002.
