Granada make QTI Assessment previewer available
In a bid to help development and implementation of the IMS Question and Test Interoperability (QTI) spec, Granada Learning have made a test previewer available online. It allows content developers to upload QTI assessments, and check how they're rendered in Granada's Testwise tool.
For developers that are looking to implement QTI, Granada's move is very handy indeed. Rather than just claiming interoperability, Testwise's implementation of the spec can be tested right over the net, without requesting access or installing the whole package. Though Testwise implements only the most common 64% of all elements at the moment --QTI version 1.2 is a rather large and complex spec--, which elements it does and does not support are outlined in a spreadsheet.
As with client browsers using the test tool, the browser you use to upload your QTI code needs to have the Macromedia Director plug-in for both uploading and viewing the results. There are also a few well documented caveats with regard to supported assessment types and the embedding of external resources in the previewed assessment.
It would be good if other vendors of VLEs or MLE components would follow this example, as there is nothing like direct testing of actual content in actual tools to determine interoperability. Not only does it make content developer's lives a bit easier, it also gives MLE customers a good idea of what 'just works'- the holy grail of interoperability.
Apart from the Assessment Previewer and documentation, there's also an assessment preview they made earlier and the same preview in a different skin. More info on the Testwise tool is available on the Granada Learning website.
