5th Educational Content SIG Meeting

Peter Sloep, the OUNL's IMS representative, will report on the IMS Meetings in Sheffield and give the latest news on the Content Packaging, Simple Sequencing and Learning Design specs.
There will also be reports on the IMS Open Technical Forum, Member Exchange and Special Briefings that were held on the 26th & 27th September.
Lorna Campbell will provide news & announcements from CETIS Central including information regarding the upcoming CETIS Code Bash and Content Exchange events.
There will be reports from the Assessment, Metadata and FE Focus Group SIGs.
Steve Walmsley and Ben Ryan of the High Level Skills for Industry Project will give an update on their digital repository. Their presentation from the 4th EC SIG meeting is available under Files on the SIG web page. This time they will be demonstrating work in progress for their new authoring tool, which is scheduled for completion in
November. This tool will combine XML / IMS Content Packaging output. Metadata issues will also be touched on.
Chris Jesshope, Professor of Computer Science at Hull University, will give an introduction to content creation with freely available software AudioGraph Recorder. AudioGraph generates multimedia web sites and allows the author to easily capture images, graphics and voice. The site generated uses html and a plug-in for playback of the multimedia. They are currently working on metadata automation and IMS Content Packaging.
Eddie Clarke and Mark Stiles of Stafford University will give updates on:
* the v. 2.0 release of their VLE COSE, which is available as free binary now, and is intended to become open source soon.
* completion of their Co3 project.
* progress to date on their new X4L project. Initial efforts have been directed at looking at tools and content currently available, and trying to assess how far they are SCORM 1.2 compliant, building somewhat on Eddie Boyle's report earlier commissioned by the EC SIG.
Lorna Campbell and Steve Jeyes will give updates on: Prometeus Conference; Valkenburg Group; CEN/ISSS; Merlot Conference; Conformance Testing.
EC SIG Business:
The EC SIG has a budget to commission small scale tasks and studies for the benefit of its membership and the wider HE/FE community. Possibilities for future tasks will be discussed: ideas welcome.
Ideas for future meetings will also be discussed.
