JISC E-Learning FrameworkThe JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) e-Learning Programme is a 3 year programme running from Oct 2003 until Sept 2006. The programme has three strands: pedagogy; technical frameworks and tools; and innovation. The three strands are all interconnected, and therefore all are holistically of interest to the Enterprise SIG. However, the SIG is particularly interested in activities and projects running in the e-learning framework strand. JISC e-Learning Programme: Technical Framework and Tools Strand. The technical framework strand of the project is centred around a reference e-learning framework developed by JISC in collaboration with DEST and Industry Canada. This framework, the ELF (e-Learning Framework) uses an SOA (Services Oriented Architecture) approach to developing a generic e-learning framework. In other words, instead of simply linking up large "monolithic" systems such as VLEs, Library Management Systems, and Student Record Systems, to form an MLE (Managed Learning Environment), the ELF takes an approach whch breaks down all the different functions needed in a college technical framework into different "services".
