Linking Institutional & Personal Learning
Domains: Colin Dalziel
The LIPID project distinguishes 2 types of learner data: institutional data (e.g. names,
course memberships, grades, etc), & personal data (e.g. personal learning information held in
ePortfolios). LIPID uses the Sweet.net toolkit to transfer institutional learner data from the
student management system (SITS) to the ePortfolio system (PebblePad), enabling learners to
“access institutionally held (and approved) data to their personal learning systems for onward use
in online CVs; applicational presentations; and career portfolios.”

SUNIWE: Mark Stiles & Sam Rowley
SUNIWE is further developing the work done by the NIIMLE project, which developed an MLE
linking all the universities and FE colleges in Northern Ireland. The SUNIWE project will be
linking together colleges and universities in the West Midlands into a single portal, enabling
single point access to learner and course data, eResources, VLEs and ePortfolios.

XCRI and Portfolios: Mark Stubbs, Simon
Grant & Scott Wilson
The XCRI project (eXchanging Course Related Information) has been developing a standardised way
of representing and exchanging information about courses. In this presentation, Mark, Simon and
Scott will discuss the links between course information, learner information and portfolios in
providing integrated learning experiences for students, e.g. using personal information stored in
portfolios to assist learners searching for courses relevant to their interests and abilities.
