Pedagogy Forum and Accessibility SIG

This was a joint meeting of the CETIS Accessibility SIG ( Special Interest Group) and CETIS Pedagogy Forum
The Meeting was held at the University of Wales, Bangor on Monday 23rd May 2005 10.30am - 4pm

Agenda:

10:30 – 11:00 Registration and Coffee.

11:00 – 11:05 Introduction and Welcome.

11:05 - 11:45 Dyslexia Friendly: User Friendly (An Inclusive Approach to Accessible Learning Material) – Pete Rainger, Key2Access Ltd. How to develop an inclusive approach to the design, development and adaptation of e-learning and printed learning materials.

11:45 - 12:30 Building on the standards. Lawrie Phipps, TechDis. Presentation looking at approaches to e-learning and disability, discussing how learning for disabled students is supported through the application of e-learning standards.

12:30 - 13:30 Lunch

13:30 - 14:15 Pedagogy Before Technology – Prof Tony Toole, Coleg Sir Gar. Technology is a useful tool but it can be a barrier if it is not embedded in the pedagogy. Examples of inclusive design will also be given.

14:15 – 15:00 Pedagogy and Accessibility - Prof Mark Stiles, Staffordshire University
Embedding issues around pedagogy and accessibility (both linked and separately) in work on policy, quality assurance regulations as part of trying to achieve institutional practice and cultural change.

15:00 – 15:15 Tea.

15:15 - 16:00 Discussion.
Discussion around issues raised during the day.

16:00 Close.
