Learning goes underground
George Siemens talks about what happens when learners disconnect from the LMS and start to use their own (better) tools - as "when learning goes underground"
Oddly enough this same point was just made by Rob Koper of the OUNL in a presentation at the meeting I'm in for the TENCompetence project.
Naturally, this is a strong argument in favour of enabling and actively supporting the use of learner-owned tools in the first place, something which is part of the thinking behind the PLE.
