Storage as service
I've only just started to notice these web services for handling generic storage capacity, and the capability they offer for e-science and the grid. While I quite happily use my GMail store, and have dabbled with Google Base, Fraser Speirs has a nice cost comparison of using Amazon's S3 service instead of running a 50TB Grid store
I was recently in a discussion of the role of third-party commercial services in the e-framework, and I think its increasingly obvious that these kinds of services are out there, and are clearly useful.
