Beyond centralized systems
Yesterday our symposium was held here at Ed-Media in Vancouver. The subject: "Getting beyond centralized technologies in higher education". The symposium panel were Sebastian Fiedler, Brian Lamb, myself, Robert Fitzgerald, George Siemens, and Kai Pata.
It was a very lively session; the first report is over on Kai's blog
My paper was titled "Preparing for disruption: developing institutional capability for decentralized education technologies". You can get it here in Word format if you don't fancy going through the 100Mb proceedings PDF.
In summary, this paper is about how decentralised personal technologies, rather than threatening the institution, instead offer an escape from a pattern of escalating technology provision that is unsustainable.
